HELP! Real or Fake Mikuni TM40-6 carb??? was created by BOOM_FIST
Guys, please help. I just purchased a Brand New Mikuni TM40-6 carb off of eBay and just received it.

First off, it came wrapped in Saran-Wrap stuffed into a soft plastic baggy type FedEx bag. After unwrapping it the first thing I noticed was how light-weight it felt, but I don’t have much experience with this carb to tell weight wise.

Secondly, I immediately noticed what seem to me like grind marks ALL over the body!?!? Like it had imperfections and someone tried to clean it up with a flippin’ Dremel. :S

I’m pretty heated after a $230 price tag to think I’m trying to be ripped off by someone. Not cool.

Any input guys?? ........Thanks.

-Tom

Yeah, can’t tell on the authenticity, but I spoke with the company that sold it to me and they’re being really cool about it. Apparently, they have multiple warehouses that package and ship their products for them and they just packaged mine like poop. Hopefully getting a New replacement sent soon.

Oh well, just beware when you buy things off eBay guys. Normally I have great experience, but the few times I run into this.

Thanks for that link!

The grind marks is the factory removing the casting flash. I have genuine Mikuni flatslide carbs that i ordered straight from Sudco and they have the same marks, its part of the production process. They could be fake, but they look exactly like the carbs that Scirocco posted. Fake carbs usually have some small differences to identify them. If you are unsure I would call Sudco, and in the future order from them directly if you can. reasonable prices and legit.

So you wouldn’t be worried about using this carb on your bike? Should I keep it or return it?

Keep it and use it. I just bought 3 new TM34 from oemcycle for my H2B, think the Mikunis are getting a little rougher in finish lately, but all the machined surfaces etc are perfect and they work fine.
