kz 400 carbs.
19 Jan 2018 20:36
hi, everyone. I'm new here and here's my first question (probably many more to come). I just got a kz 400 that hasn't run since 1985. It has keihin cvb36 carbs. Took them apart yesterday and they were extremely crudded up. I'm wondering if they are worth fixing. Are these decent carbs ot run or should I just buy aftermarket ones ? and where's the best place to find rebuild kits ?

I already started to clean them. I'm pretty sure I'll be able to fix them. The question is, do they work properly when rebuilt. I don't want to run carbs that will cause me problems down the line. I don't mind spending the money to fix them as long as they are not known to have issues.

You will also want an air compressor to blowout any crud in the theta and jet holes. If thy clean up nice and rebuilt properly with the o-rings and gaskets you should be completely fine. And to answer your other post. The jet needles do not have a clip to hold them in there should be a black piece with a circlip.

And what ever you do don't waste money buying crappy aftermarket carb kits. Just get new O-rings and clean properly.

They work just fine when clean and properly adjusted, as long as the stock air box, air filter and exhaust system are in place. A missing air box or straight pipes will provide many hours of utter frustration.
