use both push and pull throttle cables? was created by 2strokerider
Can I get away with just using the pull cable on my 1979 KZ1000E?

I fought the push/pull cables and found the setup very difficult to make work correctly with low bars on a KZ1000 and KZ650. For some reason no matter how adjusted, I would get binding, and kind of an unwanted cruise control as the throtte would stick and not return to idle. On stock high bars I never had problem, and all my KZs now have stock bars and the setup works fine, but with low bars it stinks. What I'm trying to say I guess is no need for the double cables, but they don't hurt if working correctly. If not, get rid of the push cable.

Its very easy to adjust the cables. Adjust the pull cable with proper freeplay, then tighten push cable until it just starts to bind and back off a turn.

Agree. I've owned my 1977 KZ650-C1 for nearly 41 years and never had a problem adjusting the 2 throttle cables. I use genuine Kawasaki cables, but I don't think that would make a difference. I guess if they were not routed properly they might bind. Ed

Hi 2strokerider,
A closing cable can be used as a convenient opening cable in a pinch, at least on Z-1's. The KZ-1000 carb cranks are similar.
