2005 Kz1000 police Jetting a straight pipe
27 Sep 2017 08:56 - 27 Sep 2017 09:05
Hey everyone just found your forum I'm happy I could join
So I recently just built an exhaust for my 2005 kz1000 police, it's pretty much a straight pipe with a small amount of back pressure because of the cone tip I welded on at the end. I'm wondering whats a good inexpensive jet kit out there that works well for the money. I'm not trying to build a race bike, I just want the air fuel mix to be right and not lean? Also how well do pod filters work on a late model kz1000p like this with the cv carbs? Thank you for all the advice ahead of time.

Putting pods on CV carbs will ensure you get to spend plenty of time trying to get them to work as well as the stock air box. Be sure to post the magic formula if you succeed as inquiring minds want to know. Ed

DynoJet and 6Sigma make jet kits.
They have different stages that relate to what has been changed on the bike.
Stage one is for a stock machine. Stage three will be for filters and exhaust.
DynoJet is the most complete. 6Sigma does not have a jet needle. If you search the archives
for BS34 jet needle there is a post about a different needle some have used with success.
I don't know if there is a kit for a police bike specifically but any '81 and up 1000/1100 kit will work.
Hey 650ed,..... TAA DAAAAAAA!!!!

Hopefully your suggestion will work for him; I wish him the very best of luck. It will be interesting to see if it does and the total amount of time and money it takes to switch to pods and tune it so it runs as well as it does with an airbox. Ed

28 Sep 2017 06:52I'm with you on this one ed, as we know all the top racers converted their CVs to run with pods and went on to keep the knowledge secret, do you detect the cynic in me here, they run right either low end or top end not across the complete rev range anyone that says they do is yet to wake up,650ed wrote: Hopefully your suggestion will work for him; I wish him the very best of luck. That's typically what I have seen too. The link below may be helpful to one who is contemplating putting pods on CV carbs. It has a nice video that shows how CV carbs operate. Ed

Making CV carbs with pods run well across the RPM range is the challenge I have seen too. The link below shows how CV carbs operate and may help anyone contemplating putting pods on CV carbs. Ed

Been running pods 30 years now, I like them.
Racers didn't use CV's, no, but neither the stock carbs - usually smoothbores with velocity stacks or modified airboxes.
Unless one is running a closed loop DFI system with loads of development hours and VTEC motor I really think all carburetor equipped vehicles as a rough compromise, the best engineering we had -then.
My concern is that straight through pipes get annoyingly loud really soon -done it myself. Short baffles would actually give you more bottom end ooomph.
Funny if you got a ticket from a policeman in an umarked car when riding your ex police bike.

I respectfully disagree, as do some members here, a bunch of members over at ZRXOA, and thousands of guys who owned and raced old British sports cars and the very early sporty cars from Japan.

The point being made is CVs don't run right with pods never have and never will, (in your opinion)
Are you really saying no-one has ever set up a kz/ Gpz on pods with CV's, and never will?
I get what you are saying, a lot harder to tune than slides .and several disadvantages so not ideal in many ways.
