idle

19 May 2017 21:57

On my newly aqquired 83 kz1100 the motor does not snap back to idle like I feel it should. I notice it mostly coming to a stop. Another thing I notice is the choke knob want to pop back out to almost first position, which I push back in and it idles down ok then. Other than that the bike (although cold blooded) starts and runs very well. Any ideas to the cause of this?

Bad cables?

If the idle is hanging and not settling down quickly that could be an air leak. Replace carb boots on the head and possibly the boots at the back of the carbs too. Some people spray stuff on the carbs and listen for engine speed changes as a way of finding vacuum leaks but in my experience that method is not 100% reliable.

I understand. No problemo, it is awkward to get a vid of it popping out by myself and reving it. I have included a pic of the choke set up.on this. I lnow the knob is broken off. Please look at this and see if it is correct. Should the little spring be on the outside of that bracket and helping to hold it in? My manual isnt real clear in its pic of choke knob. setup. And what is the thumbwheel in the center of the 4 carbs coming out the back of carbs? Kinda hard to see.

That's the idle adjustment screw. Looks liike you're missing the snap ring on the choke plunger.
