I don't think that's a overflow. Maybe a vent with a check valve.

Should I be able to push or pull air through it when the petcock isn't hooked up and the bike isn't running?

Yeah, my plan was to try to keep it all original but I thought that switch valve might be toast so I checked out the thread where someone else had taken all of that stuff off. I was wondering If I had done it correctly.

Looks good to me. I used plastic plugs from the HDWR store for my airbox.

If you are asking about the hose that comes from the sending unit cover, that is just in case the sending unit or its gasket begin to leak.

So there's a valve in there that opens up with pressure on it? Should I be able to push air through it?

I think Martin is right about it being a catch basin. I wouldn't be concerned with it.

I put everything back together after doing the valve adjustment. It ran for a few minutes but a lot of smoke was coming off of the engine, I couldn't see what was causing it. Could it have something to do with adjusting the valves?
