Kz900 fuel leak - help was created by Conspiracy
Good day,
My mechanic has been trying to correct a fuel leak for me but cannot seem to figure it out. I have only known him as long as I have had the bike and am not very sure he has worked on a KZ much before but so far this is what he has said:
Fuel looks like it is leaking "between" carbs.
He has replaced o rings on carbs.
He has checked floats, said they should be ok.
He said the screws on the bottom of the carb are tight, fuel not coming from that.
He said there is enough vibration in the motor that it vibrates loose the carb tuning screws and puts the tube out of sync.
He said to investigate further he will need to take the carbs apart one by one.

I am hoping he magically finds his answer tonight so I can pick it up tomorrow. Once i get the bike back I will try to get some picture or a video to see if anyone here has some more ideas.

Can anyone visualize where a leak might be coming from "between" carbs?

Thanks

Did he do the clear tube test? Vibration shouldn't be an issue. Wrong size O rings? Has he had them apart already?

When carbs with "dry" fuel pipes are returned to service, the fuel pipes may leak slightly from their supposedly snug fit into the carbs. Sometimes, exposure to fuel for a few hours results in a slight swelling of the raised ridges on the fuel pipes enough to eliminate the leakage.

Good Fortune! :)

He said he got the fuel figured out. Meeting him tomorrow to get some more details and get the bike back. I'll finally be able to take some pics for an into post

Patton - in this case the leak developed after maybe 100 miles or so. It went from not leaking at all to leaving a puddle under it every night. Hopefully it is all good now though.

Hello Conspiracy

This is a common problem of the inlet tee.
They dry out and get hard if no fuel is in the fuel hose.
10 years ago i installed new ones in my carbs and after the years they begin leaking like yours.
I solved this leaking problem in my rebuild project with a shrink tube over the rubber part that plugged in the carb body.

I believe the inlet T was to blame. I got the bike on Saturday and he said the fuel leak was resolved. I woke up Sunday to a large puddle. The mechanic replaced fuel lines and I made sure they were tight. No more leak on Monday. We will see if the issue is truly resolved.
