'83 KZ750L3. For Floats, Which Way Is Up?

Re-learning a lot about this bike I probably knew in 1990.

When one installs new floats in the carbs, there is a small clip ... does the clip go up or down, when looking down at the bottom of carb?

In the photo here the clip is on the RHS.

Thanks

Looks upside down to me. Look for the witness mark on the tang.

If it was my Keinin CV34 carbs I"d say upside down for sure but as its probably a Mikuni BS34 I'd just say more than likely upside down.
Floats are usually way higher than the carb body (in the photo position) otherwise theres next to no Float height

The float as shown is right side up. That little tab, built into the float, limits how far down the float hangs when there is no fuel in the bowl.

Here is a rebuild tutorial for BS CV Mikuni's... zeus.mtsac.edu/~cliff/storage/gs/Mikuni_...Rebuild_Tutorial.pdf

I hope you went through the carbs completely, not just spritzed them out. In particular, it's critical to remove the pilot jets, pilot screws, choke plungers, etc and make sure all the passages are open. I also strongly advise unganging the carbs so the interconnect tube O-rings can be changed. Those ones are subject to the most deterioration and are routinely hard and brittle.
