"US" Carb Specs?

Hi folks,

I'm cleaning my stock VM24 carbs and a little confused by the specs in the Kawasaki service manual. Am I supposed to be using the "US model" jet sizes from the table below?

The main jets in there now are 102's.

Thanks,

I'd go with the 102.5's. Surprised the US is richer.

What year bike? Here are the carb specs I have. Keep in mind that the B2A and D1A had 22mm carbs rather than the normal 24mm carbs. The last image is a service bulletin sent out in 1978. Ed

HI Ed,

It's an '81 KZ650 H1. The pic I posted is from the Kawasaki service manual for that model. I was kind of surprised to find separate specs indicated for a "US model" and I still don't really get it.

U.S. anti-pollution regulations were different than in other countries, hence the different specs. I'd start with the jetting suggested for the cutaway height on your slides. The cutaway is especially influential at idle and small throttle openings.

I'd stay with the US specs as written. Everything is designed to work together. I wonder if someone purchased "carb kits" at sometime in the bikes past and changed out the original jets. You might want to have a close look at them to see if the mains have the customary "Mikuni" markings. If not, you got the story.

Okay, the slide cutaway is 1.5 so that matches the non-US specs. I'll stick with those.

Thanks!
