Carb Intake Boots

Sup guys. Really just looking for a subtle (or not) nudge in a direction here. Months ago I had questioned swapping my stock Mikuni BS34's CV carbs for VM28's.

Fitting whatever I've finished "tinkering" with back on the bike, and it comes time to fit it with appropriate intake boots, as the stock ones are about 30% larger around the carb. I haven't been very effective at searching for fitting boots. That being said, many of the intake boots sold online are simply replacements for stock boots, and don't list measurements.

Is there somewhere online I could compare parts with or something; maybe find one from another bike with close measurements? I have a really awkward feeling that if I were to add a spacer/gasket to occupy the space between my VM28's and the stock boots, it'll get sucked into the combustion chamber or something....

Didn't several models of the big KZ come with those 28mm VM carbs? What about using those boots and slotting the bolt hole as needed so you can fit them to your head?

Im a bit confused at what you're suggesting. Sorry, I I'm finding it difficult to visualize...

There weren't many CSR models made; i think 3 total? I couldn't find the measurements of the actual part on the other bikes.

Look in E-Bay for carburetor intake boots for Kawasaki KZ900/1000 years 1973 to 1980..
I have a 1980 Kawasaki KZ750 Ltd. I bought new. I recently managed to get it out of my garage after 28 years and put it on the road again (2010). I feel like a kid all over again. Since I have acquired 3 78 KZ1000 Ltd, 1 1981 KZ1000 Ltd, and another 1980 KZ750 Ltd. Love the LTD's.

That's what I thought. You'll have to do what Ed said and open them up where they meet the intake. You might try here.

Or see if they'll sell you just two.

Ohhhh I think I understand. Buy boots that fit the VM28 carb and "rig" it to fit my bike?

Looks like it. I'd be wary of NOS rubber. I've had bad luck with them. Call Diablo or the other places to see if you can buy two. About the same price for new if you can get them.
