So I went for a ride to Poconos yest with a couple of friends and about an hour into it the bike just stopped responding to throttle as if it ran out of gas. It happened within a few seconds from when I noticed something is wrong (going about 75-80) to the engine not turning anymore. So I pulled over and tried to start it and it would behave as if i'm starting it first time in the morning. So I opened the choke all the way and it started just fine and once it got going we got back on the road. We decided to get off the highway and about half an hour later the same thing happened. Again there is no signs of it coming or anything it just stutters and within a few seconds it's dead. Again pulled the choke out and started just fine. Oil looked a little low so I filled it up but oil indicator was not lit. The bike worked without a hitch for the rest of the ride for about an hour. On the way back took the highway about 3 hours riding no problem at all. I did put about a gallon of fuel before we took off for the trip at a gas station I've never used before. But that about the only different thing I did with the bike. Anyone can point me in the direction of what could this potentially be caused by? Thanks for your help,

First guess would be clogged strainer on the petcock. Next would be vent clogged. Last would be coils. Pics of the plugs?

Could have been water in the fuel. Was it a dodgy looking station?

Seeing as how it died completely [all cylinders] and then restarted with choke, fuel starvation seems likely. Highly unlikely it's coil related.

Gas cap vent plugged? When you open the gas cap is there a vacuum?

Resister plugs. Try B8ES and see how they do. Looks rich and a little oil.

1. What do I need to adjust to make it run leaner? Do I need to adjust the carbs?
2. How do I check a fuel petcock screen?

Thank you.

Perhaps could post a pic of the carbs to confirm their identification (air screw or mixture screw)?

And a pic of the petcock (bolt on or screw on, manual or vacuum, stock or aftermarket)?

Good Fortune! :)

Attach clear hose to carbs and ride to see fuel level all the time. (Find that tool for level check) Not sure how safe it is.
Everybody should have aftermarket clear fuel filter. I buy them from NAPA for $2.
It is much easier to replace filter than clean carbs.

There definitely is a vacuum in the tank it pops when I open and every time I park in the garage I can hear the whistling as the air being sucked into it. How do I clean the vent out? There is often gas in the key hole of the gas cap too I'm not sure if those are related.
