KZ550 begins to sputter after 50 miles.

After about 50 miles (after filling up), my 83 kz550a begins to sputter. If I put it on reserve, it comes back to life. My issue is that there is plenty of gas in the tank. I pulled over today after it started and it only took 1.7 gallons of gas. This is a regular event. It would seem to be a petcock thing but not sure. Any suggestions?

Next time it does it try lifting the fuel tank cap - maybe a tank venting issue?

Have you tried it with the tap on 'prime'

Could be a clogged strainer.

Do you have a see-through fuel filter with a paper element? If so, those cause problems like that. I rebuilt the petcock, but that didn't help. I had to go to a scintered bronze filter.

Actually, I will get a clear fuel filter and add that to the fuel line. I should then be able to figure it out. I will keep you posted.
