New to forum! need stock airbox for kz400 was created by Upstateofmind

recently picked up a 78 kz400, going to rebuild carbs but p.o ditched the airbox for pods and from what I understand this will be a bitch to tune. Any info or links to an oem airbox would be awesome. Thanks.

Thanks! Saw one on ebay but the boots were cracked, is this a fixable problem? I know that the whole point of the airbox is the vacumn.

If you cannot find an OEM airbox, you could always swap carbs. Mikunis will be worlds easier to tune with pods compared to the the OE Keihins.

I know that's not exactly what you asked but consider it a plan B. :-)

They seem hard to come by. I took off my 28 mm carbs and installed 33's. I made my own boots.

I might end up going that route and getting some new mikunis if I cant get them to run properly. I also heard that somehow restricting the pod air flow with tape and such could help. Also Steve how did you make those boots?

Silicon hose. If the ID to the carb is right, the OD of the boot will fit snugly in the box. Cut a little longer so you have a velocity stack effect inside the box. Mine don't look like that now. The insides still do but the outsides don't. Next time I'll use radiator hose like I did 17 years ago.
