Pod haters (and Pod lovers)

So I've been shaking down my 750 B1 Twin. K&N pods, MAC 2:1 header and Supertrapp exhaust can, stock Mikuni CV carbs.

Tuned the Supertrapp as rich as it will go (1 disc). Turned the idle screws out an extra half turn and ...

It stumbles a little bit around 3500rpm, nothing serious, easy to avoid by throttling through it or upshifting. Used to pop and bubble a fair bit on deccelleration but stopped that after opening the idle screws. Got it up to 130kph/80mph on the highway and it was still pulling well. Thats as fast or faster than I will likely go at my advanced age. Plugs are as white as a KKK sheet which is the only thing that troubles me.

So it's running lean presumably but do I care as long as I just putter around town and occasionally ride at highway speed limits?

Try the next size larger pilot jet and raise the needle with one washer.

I'd shim the needle first, then re-check the mixture. If still too weak go up one size on the main jets.

Pods lean the mixture far more than changes to the exhaust. You are most likely going to have to increase the main, lift the needle, and maybe even up the pilot jet too. Sounds simple but you can expect a lot of trial and error before getting it right. Good luck.

OK, I got the jet needles out and the little retainer clip can go down one more slot (richer). Worth trying that before shimming?

If the needles have slots, shims aren't needed.
