Gas Leak: After Carb Cleaning was created by prizethedoubt
So I cleaned my carbs for the first time and I have a gas leak coming out the carb bowl somewhere. Not sure if this is a bad seal, bad line, or the float needle is stuck maybe? I'm guessing I'll have to take carbs off again (boo). Any suggestions for where to look first? Also it starts to idle high after a few minutes.

See video below for sputtering and gas leak.

Thanks!

pinch the gas line, or unhook the vacuum line. start the bike, let it idle until it runs out of gas. tap the carbs with a small metal hammer.

then turn the fuel on to PRIME. sometimes a bit of crud gets stuck in the needle/seat, and won't seal. running the bike out of gas lets the needle fall off the seat. new gas going in flushes the crap out of the way.
wroth a try.
if that no work, figure out which carb is leaking.
if that doesn't work, pull the carbs, pull the float bowls, turn the carbs over, blow or suck and figure out which one is leaking.
probably the needle and seat.

Did you replace all the gaskets an o-rings?
Could also be caused by the fuel level being set too high. Did you check it using the clear tube method?

No, I will look into gasket rings, think its getting too much air? Don't know about the clear tube method...Doing this all for the first time, trying to learn, fix this old timer.

Too much fuel, hence the dripping and poor running. Like swest said, type clear tube test into the search box on this site, and you will likely find several discussion threads on it. You also need to get a genuine Kawasaki factory service manual for you're specific year and model bike. It has invaluable information, including a description of the clear tube method. Some JIS screwdrivers will save you some headaches as well.
