First Ride with a Few Questions ???

As a lot of the members on this Forum have been a Real Help in putting this bike back together :) :) It's a 77' KZ1000A I purchased as a non-runner about 2 years ago. Bike hadn't run since 1988. But perseverance and multiple repairs it's running again. Just recently replaced the rotor/clutch starter assembly.

So with a the mechanical adjustments I could make and verification of the electrical functioning as it should, the bike was ready for it's maiden voyage

Ran it about 20 miles with stop and go riding, shifting thru the gears nicely. I was surprised how close the carbs. are jetted with it's K&N dual air filter pods and Vance&Hines header but due to Help from the Forum as well :) :)

Here's what I'm seeing now, is that there is a little oil residue collecting in the rubber boots of the air filters where it connects to the carbs. and maybe a little oil residue in the intake throats of the carbs. too? It seemed to be before I had the float height set correctly on the carbs., there appeared to be a little oil residue in the fuel at the overflow tubes at the bottom of the carbs. after I ran the bike in an idle mode in the garage for a while?

Any Ideas on what may be going on ? There doesn't appear to be be any blue smoke coming out the exhaust muffler when bike is running or revved up.

Do the clear tube test on the carbs.

Steve, Already did the Clear Tube Method while carbs. mounted on the bike and on center stand. A bit fiddly but set height at 3mm below mating surface of float bowl as suggested per method instructions.

And K&N Dual Pod Air Filters, haven't even oiled at all. Definitely not pink in color as if ever oiled.

Ride it for a while and see if it dries up.

Since you are running pods...what did you do with the crank case breather line?

No crankcase breather line. Just open to the atmosphere from the crankcase breather body or cap.

For racing applications, a "catch-can" may be used toward helping keep oil off the track.

Good Fortune! :)

Nice Picture Patton and was thinking about using a vent tube routed somewhere else. Still trying to determine where this oil I'm seeing is coming from ? As the bike is idling, I can feel a little pressure out of the top of the breather cover but not seeing any oil spraying from it.

Gaffer tape a piece of paper to the float bowls under the carbs and run the bike up and down the road.See what you get.

I'd run a hose up along the frame then down to the chain. The extra run will help condense the oil vapor and lube the chain at the same time. B)
