Mikuni 29 mm trouble was created by KzRyan
Hey guys. It's been a little while. I am very close to finishing a complete re wire, and getting my newly built 1015 running. At this time bike idles ok, I have a very nice set of 29's on it wheras before I had some 26's. I am having a hell of a time getting the second carb to read equal vacuum. They all seem low but 1,3 and 4 match and 2 does not. I've sprayed carb cleaner around the intake , nothing seems to be leaking vacuum.

Could someone give me an idea on how much vacuum They should draw and what I might be missing with carb number 2.

Would mostly strive for equal vacuums among the carbs at idle rpm, and not be too concerned about the numerical values involved.

Air jet may need some special TLC (and possible replacement). --.

Had the same issue. #3 is the lead carb on my 33's and is fixed. I made the rest the same as that one. One carb was reading low vac at first because it was almost closed. I had to raise idle to get them to match. Once done I was able to lower it and fine tune them.

I went back in last night after work and found out a few things. 1st off i was reading some more about the 29's, i guess (never knew this) there is a screw under the pull cable slide in the center of all 4 carbs that adjusts the pre set height. Mine was in the 2nd one, and once i got all 4 to match vacuum i started to "tighten in" the top slide adjustment one by one - got them all to pull much more vac evenly but then ran out of idle adjustment. I set the idle "pre set" as ill call it down to the first position, then i got frustrated because i was dropping wrenches so i called it a night.

Before with all of the 26's ive grown acustomed to it wouldnt take long at all to tune, synch and recheck it all. These 29's are giving me a headache.

I cannot remember right now what size jets/needles i have in. 120-25 sounds about right for the main.

Hey Patton where is that air jet, im a little backwards when i read schematics. Is that in the front of the carb body? screws into one of the many openings in the lower lip so to speak?

The air jet is on the intake/air-box side of the carbs.

It's easy to mess up when attempting to extract the air jet.
Would first soak it overnight witha penetrant such as PBBlaster, Kroil, 50-50 mixture of ATF/acetone, Liquid Wrench, etc.
And use a screwdriver of the perfect size.
DON'T FORCE IT!

What screw does this statement refer to? there is a screw under the pull cable slide in the center of all 4 carbs that adjusts the pre set height

Bench sync is basically the same as for Z1 and KZ900 carbs as shown in the FSM's.
Be sure to have the idle adjustment screw in some mid position whereby the slides may be further lowered as is often necessary during the later running sync at idle rpm.

I think he's talking about the idle adjustment screw.
