Mikuni RS36 D3 K application was created by daveo
RS36 is the correct size per the Mikuni application chart.
The bike: KZ1100A-2 stock bore/pistons, 84 bathtub head/GPZ 1100 cams, V&H header, Dynatek 2000 ignition.
...and I want to use the stock air box.

Would anyone agree?

The RS36' s are going to be too much carb for your stock motor. I would go with the RS34's.

Thanks baldy110
Its a big chunk of change to drop for something like this...hence the question.
Would the RS34 be THE choice performance upgrade option to go with when replacing BS34 carbs?

It appears then that the Mikuni chart is misleading, as well as the correct fit application for Amazon.

:) Nothing wrong, just considering what may be the best way to boost performance without further internal modification to the engine.

David, I can tell you that I absolutely love my RS34's. What you also need to consider is how you plan to ride the bike. They are not fuel efficient as they are racing carbs not meant to be used for daily drivers. They are easy to tune and simplistic in design. They chatter when they idle which some guys truly dislike, personally, I like it. But then again I love the smell of race fuel, and the sound of a super charger or turbo. I'm a gear head. Another option for the BS34's would be a Stage 3 carb kit. I put one in the BS34's I bought but did not run them on the bike so I do not have a comparison to offer you. Some day when I get the bike running the way I want I would like to but the bike on a dyno and compare the 2 carbs and post the stats. Maybe that will be a summer project for when the heat in AZ is unpleasant for riding.

"Unpleasant heat"
The weather pro's said there wasn't supposed to be snow here now, but guess what...

With the RS carbs, what affect will the air box have on performance? Do you think the chatter would be be muted (or enhanced), since they are pulling air from a contained (zomewhat balanced) source?
