Magnet to fuel filter? Rust dust. was created by car5car
I opened up bowls again after 30 miles of riding and they had rust dust again!
I remember washing bowls with break cleaner first time.
Filter doesn't catch rust dust. If rust is magnetic, small magnet will catch it and I will see it thru clear fuel filter.
I always buy small fuel filters from NAPA.

How fine of a particle size do the NAPA filters claim to block? Ed

What kind of gas do you buy? They say if the truck is there filling the tanks, go somewhere else.

In the 37 years I have owned mine, I can not remember a single time I dropped the bowls on my carbs and did NOT see some rust dust sediment in there regardless of what filters I used.

Clean the fuel tank. Seal it if necessary. Fuel filters that flow easily at 0 psi like our bikes require are not going to filter the fuel down to some low micron level. The common gold stone filters are more like a strainer than a filter. Paper filters work better but typically need positive fuel pressure to push the fuel through.

They said that back in the days when the gas station's underground tanks were made of steel. But I think most stations are now some composite material, or at least lined with some inert material. Plus there's no way to tell if the tanker just left a minute before you got there.

Same here. It does not seem to mess anything up, really, it just sits in the bottom of the bowl. I will drain the bowls once or twice a year after a ride. Hopefully if the rust is stirred up from the ride, it will come out with the gas.

Here's what I use on my KZ650. The Golan filter filters at the 10 micron (.000392") level. Those are pretty small particles. Ed
