Tk22 carb Sync attempt, I'm out of my element.

Tonight's project will be trying to snyc my carbs on my '81 GPz550.

I've read the manual, I've watched some videos, I have a rough idea of the principles at work here.

I have an auxiliary fuel tank, a 30 year old mercury manometer that has never been out of the box, a fan to keep the engine cool and about 6 hours to figure out what I'm doing.

I've been getting this bike sorted out with your help and put about 90 miles on it today and it runs and rides pretty good, it's not very happy at low idle and chugs and sputters at anything less than about 1300 rpm, I'm hoping this helps.

I'm open to advice, this will be my first time and I WILL be attempting this.

What say you?

go for it. after you've done it a few times, you may be able to do without the auxuliarry tank and just burn what's in the bowl, I mean the gas.

A lot of carbs have a lead carb. #3 normally. Bench sync them and if not chose one and let it be. Adjust the rest to be even with it.

Ha you and me are on the same page tonight ..... just spent the last 20-25 minutes looking this up and the 5 clutch springs vs 6 too in your exc manual down loads.

Also I always wondered .... the manual states 19 to 24 cm? or what ever it is so I always tryed to shoot for around 21 and a half or so ..... does this make a difference to be on the low end or the high ??

Good job on the sync Madshad too you got it done quick and right on the money.

:)

It sure is nice when things go the way they should.....
Whole different bike at Idle and right off the line, cold start is much better.
Idle rpm is set at 1 needle width above the 10 on the tach and is rock solid.
The hardest part about the whole thing was making my brother look for his new in the box motion pro manometer that he stuffed away 30 years ago.
