So I want to go with straight pipes but can't find a jet kit anywhere for an 83 kz550 ltd c4. I need advice on how to up the jets and how to remove the baffles. It does have the stock air box and I'm going to keep it that way. Thanks in advance.

Alot of great 550 info there from member Loudhvx

I believe you need a jet kit as that is the only supply of larger jets. Another option is drilling them. Check out Loudhvx site info on the 550 models.

Parts for the TK22 carbs are very hard to come by and you will not find any jet kit for those.

The kit is Dynojet Kit DJ-2305, or just #2305 .
The same kit is also available under the K & N brand. It is K & N kit 81-9012.

You can readily get stock size jets for the TK22 in the rebuild kits, and new needles and main jets from the Dynojet kit R mentioned.
The info is also in that link R posted.

I have recently rejetted a TK22 equipped KZ550, with no airbox, using the stock jets and simply shimming the factory needle precisely. It runs perfectly, but may be slightly richer than ideal for getting high gas mileage. But it's nice to be able to use the stock jets.

The details for shimming are on the TK22 page.
I would start with a .3 to .5mm shim, (and whatever shim wire is required).

But all of that is going to be the last step after confirming the compression and valve clearance, ignition timing and consistency etc. Then fuel level, sync etc.

KZ550 (80-82 A1-A3), and (80-83 C1-C4) all came with the same carbs...TK22.

Details are on the tk22 site.

In my opinion you don't need to re-jet if just changing the exhaust. I'd put the straight pipes on and see how it runs. You may not need any changes to mixture.

Don't fix it until it's broken.
