KZ550 Pilot Plugs

Is there a rubber plug replacement for the metal pilot jet plug on a KZ550 F1 Spectre? The metal plugs are such a pain to pull out and I usually damage them when doing so. Just doesn't seem like they need to be metal. A nitrile plug would be such a piece of cake to work with by comparison.

Don't use them. They are emission control BS to keep owners from adjusting them from the factory settings and were only to be removed then replaced by the dealer if ever. Chuck them in the trash.

+1 on that.. toss them
Don't fix it until it's broken.

Take me to school please, are we talking about p/n 92066 pilot screw plug in the Partzilla catalog? I didn't think the carbs functioned without them? Doesn't that have to be closed up just like the Mikuni BS32's and BS34's they are clearly modeled after?

Yep, it's a US only part for the purpose that I described above. Nothing but worthless scrap.

Even if they had a purpose 30-40 years ago they don't now. Gas is so different now. If you were to set it the same as when they left the factory it would run like crap if at all depending on where you are and what gas is available.

Are we confusing the 'anti tamper' plug over the pilot airscrews, for the plug that caps the pilot jet in the float bowl?

The former, yes dump it,, the latter, not sure about that.

Good question Tyrell I'm talking about the one shown in the center of the attached pic, silver whereas everything else on these carbs is black.

The one on the outside of the carb, could and should be dumped. Can't adjust things if you need to with them in

Finally got some garage time this afternoon, back to tuning up the 550 F1 carbs. Seemed to warm up slow with pilot airscrews set at 2.5 turns, set them to 3 full turns out. Runs really well out on the road. I still notice a bit of hesitation off idle, to about 2100 rpm if I roll the throttle quickly. The pilot jets in the new TK carb rebuild kit were #28, the ones that came out of the carbs were #32's.
1) 32's are bigger, correct?
2) I've carb dipped and cleaned the 32's, think I should put them back in to improve off idle performance?
