KZ1000 B2 Fuel Tap
20 Nov 2015 20:53
Need advice on whether to get a kit for this leaky tap or just buy a new one.
What is the right rebuild kit for this fuel tap?
I don't i find a kit with a replacement for item number 1 in the pic? What is this called?
I also don't see a replacement for the filter that fits on top of the copper tube that goes into the tank.
Should there be an o-ring that fits in the groove of item number 2 in the pic? This part does not fit well in the body of the tap. I can jam it in and get it to fit pretty tight but only in a position that is not parallel with the other barb - perhaps an o-ring or epoxy is needed to get the right fit or maybe muggyweld.
Thanks

1 is the actual valve that controls fuel flow, not sure if there is a replacement available for that.
2 is not a removable part so it needs to be epoxied or soldered back into place.
Any rebuild kit for a z1-kz900 or 1000 petcock should be the same. If you are to replace you have a repro of that same style for $60, a pingel for $100+ or a bikers choice (for a harley) for $20 or so. Most here swear by the pingel, to me the OE works just fine for most applications.

I believe those are right

I used Permatex liquid metal to re-install a nipple that got pulled out of the petcock.
Seal-All is another product that would probably work --- it's advertised to be fuel resistant & is sold at the HomeDepot or Lowes.

Mine would weep. I used # 600 paper, put the drum on a pencil and spun it on a flat surface with the paper to get out the scratches. It took a few times until it worked. Rust got in there a caused them on my new petcock.
