Has this Airbox been Modified was created by OzzyStrom
Hi All, I am doing some work to a friends KZ750r1 (GP)1982 , i have attached a picture of the front of the airbox where a T pipe goes into it , the engine breather pipe connects to it inside the airbox. A hose from each carb bowl vent was connected to it , is this correct ??????
Or is it a home made non gen item ???
I have checked both the parts book and repair manual for the Tee and what it fits into but i cant find them , in fact the parts book shows 2 hoses connected to the bowl vents which are 300mm long (a lot longer then what this bike has) which would go out below the motor .
This bike is a real case , looks great (paint) but who ever did the work on it needs to be shot (Vise Grips used on fork + other things) :(
Thanks in advance for any advice

Here's a link to the diagram for the 1982 KZ750-R1 airbox. I don;t see that "T" in the diagram. Ed

Looks factory to me but I doubt the vents go there. The last thing you need is vacuum in the float bowls.

engine breather pipe connects to it inside the airbox

On many bikes, the hose from the crankcase breather simply exits into the air box so that the crankcase vapors may be ingested along with incoming fresh air.
Owners sometimes elect to route the hose from the crankcase breather to exit underneath the bike or into a catch-can.

Good Fortune! :)

Someone has modified the airbox & added the Tee. The large tube of the Kawasaki clean air system should connect where that Tee is.

I was thinking that too. If it was modified, they did a good job.

Stock, the airbox has a fitting w 4 screws, so the po has apparently modified the fitting by adding the Tee. The stock fitting has a nipple for the clean air system tube on the outside of the aribox & another nipple on the inside of the airbox for the crankcase breather tubing which enters the airbox via a port below the airbox ducts. The fitting also has a open port inside the aribox, which allows the CAS & crankcase breather to breathe.

Thanks very much to all those who have replied to my question, :) I'm guessing the PO has seen the AS System in the parts book and decided for some reason it should be on this bike , but it was never fitted to the Ozzy models , you would need the rest of the system for it to work .
By what i have seen i hope they never work on another bike , they broke a piece out of one of the carbys and glued it back in with super epoxy .

When the clean air system is removed, the port is normally plugged --- otherwise there will be a vacuum leak.
Unless the guy knew enough to plug the open port inside the airbox, I'd guess you've got a vacuum leak there.
