bike not idling

I got a 84 gpz550 with a stage 3 jet kit and unifilter pod filters, and a kerker megaphone. bike was running fine but leaking fuel from the horizontal connection pipe. orings bad. I took the 4 carbs off and replaced the orings.

now all put together, the bike does not want to idle. it will run only on full choke. I have the 4 vacuum pipes open. is that a cause? do I need to connect the 2 vacuum pipe to the evap control system and 2 to the fuel tap? I was going to use a homemade sync tool to sync the carb since I took them apart.
any ideas suggested what I need to do for it to run fine. the air screws are out 3.5 turns.

Plug them. One should go to the petcock.

As a disclaimer I don't know these carbs - but the vacuum pipes on every carb I know shouldn't be left open. They will let air into the carb - under load the amount of air usually isn't enough to seriously change things, but at idle it is very noticeable.

Anything that attaches to the vac pipes should provide resistance - if it's connected to a vac advance unit, it's really just providing negative pressure, not allowing any air in. In my car I use a vac line to feed flash-lube into the fuel, since it's such a small amount and feed very slowly, it's effectively no different to having the port plugged.

The "Clean Air" paraphernalia isn't necessary and is easily removed. :cheer:

When left installed, the system adds to sources of possible air leaks. :pinch:
