Pilot plug or not ?
21 Jul 2015 06:58
I answered this question myself. After cussing at the factory metal plugs. I finally got them removed and they were a pain to get back in so they would stay. I then bought a set of rubber suzuki ones off Ebay only to find that those swelled up (cheap junk) so big, that my float bowls had to compress them when I tightened them down. I left them off completely while installing #40 bleed type plots . Bike runs great. I found posts on forums that stated bike wouldn't run without them to bike runs fine without them and it does. Just a fyi post. Btw bleed type pilot jets work fine in where a non bleed pilot jet was removed.

I wondered about those plugs too. With them installed, it forces the idle fuel to come through the main jet. Once the main starts to flow, that would probably lessen the fuel that goes to the idle system, and there is less draw on the idle air port anyway. So my guess is that with the plugs removed, it might be richer when on the mains, than with them left out, because the pilot jet can draw it's fuel easier, and continue to supply fuel at higher revs.

Omitting the plugs typically causes running issues on a stock bike. Lean I think. I suppose with a modded bike and if the jets are rich enough, losing the plugs may not show any symptoms though.
