Oh yer right, there are three basic types.

What are you using for restrictors?

The setup you have is fine, may be a wee bit off on 1&4 due to the slight loop, i used 90 degree elbows there.

That setup is a larger scale, doesnt translate to mmHG, it's more like inches of atf: But that means when you get 'close' you may be closer than you think! I've got .023 mig tips at the end of the clear hoses that I use also to hook my vac hoses to. Works fine, and since it's all hooked together they don't need calibrated before use

That's clever, what are you using for fluid? I thought you were talking about gauges.

What is the point of the restrictors? Except maybe if your carbs are enough out of sync to risk swallowing the oil I don't get the point of them?

To keep it from being sucked up at Rev, keep them steady and slow down loss if knocked over. A 650 sucked up some Mercury, I shut it down and walked away.

Mercury? Oh crap. Hope it wasn't your own bike. Or, well maybe it is best if it was

Didn't hurt anything, just don't breath it. B) Mine don't need restrictors. The murcery is heavy enough. The bolt is to let air in but keep the fluid from escaping. That happened once. I have a old Honda Civic check vale laying around but don't think about putting it on until I see it again. Some day.

The pressure in the carb goes through some pretty violent gyrations as the intake valve opens and closes, Without the restrictor, the fluid in the tube would be bouncing around so much that it would be hard to get a reading.

I have tuned several carbs on my setup and even with the restrictors have had variations of 8"+ between cylinders, on first startup. with ATF in the tubes perfectly tuned the fluid pulses an inch or so when running. Atf is substantially lighter than mercury

Cool side effect of ATF versus mercury, smokes a little stinks but relatively harmless, just oil right?

and burning a little ATF will get you in less trouble with the EPA than burning a little mercury :woohoo:

Mercury is actually harmless to biological life, it the oxidized stuff, and particularly methyl-mercury that is poisonous. The tree hugger don't know their chemistry...

Mercury is however very... not just very... EXTREAMLY reactive with aluminum and should never be used near it.

You cannot take any mercury on an airplane for this very reason.

If I knew what I was doing all the time life wouldn't be any fun.
