Hello All,

I'm working on my '78 KZ1000 A project and continue to find problem after problem with the "rebuilt" set of 29 smoothies I bought last year. I see that (2) of the connecting brackets (attaches to carb slides with two screws) are sloppy. It's causing play in the slides which can't be good. They are part number (82) on the mikuni parts diagram shown below. I'll include a picture as well. On the (2) good ones, the pin with the ball on the end doesn't move at all....doesn't even rotate....the bad ones move up and down as well as rotate, causing vertical slop in the slides.

Anybody had this issue? Is there a way to fix these? Thanks.....Mike

You might be able to make them tight by peening over the riveted ends in a vice.

If peening or staking it doesn't prevent it from moving you may want to have someone braze or silver solder it. That should be a permanent fix. Ed

Both good ideas....thanks guys. I'm trying to find some spare parts but my usual contact doesn't have them.

I think Ed's right. Nickle/silver solder is the way to go. That would fill in the slop.

Just wanted to update the thread for future searchers.....

I decided to solder the parts myself and they seem very, very solid. I don't think there will be much stress on them so hopefully they'll last. I'm having a very hard time finding reasonably priced parts, so I just fixed these. Jim at redline usually has whatever I've needed, but he's downsizing / moving and has sold all of his 29 smoothbore parts. Anyway, I haven't had a chance to try out the soldered parts yet but I'll try to update the thread again at some point in the future. Thanks for the help!
