It's hard to understand what you just said about the bowls. Only one bowl has the pump. You say it has two? The ball bearing is a check valve/ball. If the carbs are flooding, it's the diaphragm/'s that is the culprit. Each carb has a jet that is controlled by the pump/'s. If it leaks, gas will be sucked into the carbs uncontrolled.

Yes,...all 4 bowls get a check ball and c clip to keep it in.

For jets,...a good starting point would be 17.5 pilots and 117.5 mains.

According to the parts diagram on Kawasaki.com (see www.kawasaki.com/Parts/PartsDiagram/144219/1979/KZ1000-A3 ) all 4 carbs have the check valves. Ed

It sounds like there's one accelerator pump --- two would be unusual.
The triangular setup is a vacuum sensor --- I think it acts to shut off fuel to the accelerator pump when the engine stops. The thing is disabled at the factory on some models (such as my 81 650).

Are you sure they are 28mm pumpers.
Only the 26mm 's had both diaphragms fitted.
The 28's had the triangular one blanked off.

3/16 seems like the logical size to try. Metric --- probably 5mm [(3/16) x 25.4 = 4.8mm]

And all 4 bowls should have a ball, weight & clip, and on the pump nozzles at the carb body gasket surface each nozzle should have an o-ring.
