1980 KZ750 E carb butterfly disassembly
27 Mar 2015 20:46 - 27 Mar 2015 20:47
I am cleaning the carbs on my KZ750 four. Not only has the PO rounded out most of the butterfly screws, he also lost one. I need to replace the o-rings that are on the shaft that connect the carbs but i am unsure how to get the screws out of the butterfly shaft as they are hit from the back so they cant come out. I was thinking about using cap head screws to put it back together, because i hate pan heads (they always strip) How will i hit the thread so they cant back out?

Got some help over at KZ650.info
I was able to unscrew all the screws despite being peened on their threads. I replaced with button cap screws and loctite per Wiredgeorge's suggestion in another thread.

The springs are very weak on those butterflies. It's a real pain getting them to function as designed when putting them back together. The butterflies tend to hang open. I wound up bending the spring a little to wind it tighter. GOOD LUCK. Hope your set is easier to deal with.

02 Apr 2015 13:40Yeah that choke spring is a joke. i couldn't get mine to work because the PO had bent the crap out of it. i added another spring, and it works great now. The PO did a real number on these carbs. stripped a couple jets/airscrews, stripped bolts, broke off bolts, broke off overflow tube, used RTV to seal the bowls...etc some people should not be allowed to work on bikes.
