Removing airbox from KZ900 was created by mtbspeedfreak
These are tricky to remove, but I have the carbs , exhaust, and head off for work. I'm switching to smoothbores and pods.

Any tricks on removing the airbox? Thanks!

Perhaps this should have been in the carb forum. Apologies!

Just be careful not to hurt it; they're worth a fair amount of $$$ to folks who want to switch back from pods. In fact, I highly recommend you hold onto it until you have ridden the bike for a year or so with pods just in case you decide you might want to switch back. Ed

As I recall, once the rubber inlets between the airbox and carbs were removed, it was pretty easy to get the airbox out.

There are two bolts, one on each side of the air box that attach the air box to the frame with little 90 degree metal brackets. Loosening these bolts also allows the air box to move forward and backward when attaching the 4 rubber boots from the air box to the carbs.

Nothing lasts, nothing is finished, and nothing is perfect.

Ahh cool, thanks guys!

Yes, I'll definitely be hanging on to it. I doubt I'll go back as I'm running pods on my ZRX "daily driver" with great luck. Looks like popping out those rubber inlets is the way to go.

Appreciate it!

Disreguard the above statement. Thats only on 81 and above. The carb box boots may be very hard and unusable anyway I usually cut them if I have to with a saws all. Then the carbs come off a lot easier and if you want to put it back on someday you can buy a new set of boots for about $50
