What would you recommend to rebuild a 4 mm thread for 1 x vacumn cap - only have a few mm length to play with, Thanks,
Mick.

No 3 carb - choke bracket mounting point. Just needs something to give it a little bite again. There is some thread but not quite enough. These are a spare set so no urgency, Thanks, Mick.

Maybe try a sae/not metric. I had to do that on my 29s for a float bowl Slightly bigger than the metric size. Just a thought.

I've used a helicoil for repairing carb. McMaster.com and MSC have the kits.

If not helicoil you may want to have a timesert installed. You may be able to find a local machinist who can do it rather than buying a rather expensive kit for just 1 hole. Here's a link to the timesert site. Ed

Thanks for your advice - will look for a local i reckon. Couldn't see any prices for singles or kits of the timeserts - will check out the website anyway. It is very rare for me to need to do this sort of job- always very careful with that soft stuff. Mick.

I just bought the coils and tap. I used a small screw driver to install them. Here we have fastinal, do you have a bolt vendor there?

For a low torque screw like that, I've covered the screw threads with oil and then a thin layer of JB weld. Install the screw as normal. Allow the JB weld to set and back out the screw. The JB weld bonds to the clean surface of the carb, but not the oil covered threads of the screw. Instant new threads. This isn't a solution for every stripped hole, but does work in the right situations.

Thanks MDZ1rider - $15 for JBWeld at local store - will give it a shot - sounds like JB would be great for lots of jobs.
ED and Steve we have a reseller for timesert here - a M4 x 0.7 kit of 5 inserts would be $55 so not too bad.
Will give the JB a go first,
Mick.

I just took a look on google.com and a 4mm helicoil kit is less than $36 delivered. It is a cool tool and you will have it forever.
