On my 1015 Z1 with Andrews 1X cams and V/H 4/1, I was running 17.5 pilots and 125 main jets. Was getting about as much juice out of them as I could. Went to 33's, a little better but I wouldn't have paid $800 for the extra power. Got them used for $100.

I trying to see where this resurrection of the KZ will take me. If the bike had a better overall condition I would consider taking it all apart ( engine as well ) and make it right. For right now just want to get it running now to where it is somewhat rideable and reliable.
Even though I adjusted the float levels with the clear tube method, when the bike's side is parked on it's side stand, the #1 carb. float bowl drain tube will sometimes bleed off a little fuel?
Also, the fuel seems to have a little oil mixed in it? Not sure where that may coming from, maybe bad rings? Gas tank was clean before I added fuel.

Where are you seeing the oil in the fuel? If it is in the float bowls, it could
be carg varnish and not oil you see. The would explain the sticky float on #1.

It appears as if the fuel has kind of an oily feeling and when it does weep out of the carb. bowls, it looks to be an oily color?
When I disassembled the carbs., I washed all the carb. bodies in gasoline then washed and rinsed them well before reassembling them.
So, I don't know?

I'd put the 17.5's back in, readjust the fuel level and run it, then check the plugs. You might be dealing with more than one problem.
