Bike starts and runs only while choke is on... was created by Harley Killer
I have a 1979 KZ 1000.... wouldnt start and run..... I adjusted the air flow intake... Bike starts and runs good only with the choke engaged.... when you turn the choke off it backfires through the carbs and dies.... any advice on what I should do next?

How are the carb boots to the head? How long has this been happening? Has it sit for a long time?
Harley killer, I like that. They sneer at me until I fire Bossie up, that's when they get mad and look the other way. I've had woman treat me like that and I walk the other way.

Running only with choke is a classic symptom of clogged and dirty carburetors. Your carbs need to be cleaned, pay particular attention to the idle circuit, pilot jets and passageways. Make sure all the jets and carb body passageways are clean and clear.

Do you have the stock air box and filter hooked up to the carbs and are the vacuum caps on tight? Ed
