Finally, is been a long day.

So I got these two non runners for 700. Spent 250 on solvents, plugs, battery, charger and oil. After a full day off cleaning and tinkering I got it to start and idle......at 5k but still. Tomorrow starts the tuning phase. Wish me luck.

Pilots all the way in and turned out 1.5 right? Using stock air box and vm24's.

Any tips? Thanks

Use the idle screw to detune the idle... check the carb holders (btwn the carbs and head) and replace if hard or they are sucking air. This can cause a lean condition and the only correction is new holders.

RE: air screw turns... start @ 1.5 turns out, from lightly seated. I've found that each carb "can" need a custom setting here.

Consider finding, if you've not already, a FSM... be it MaKawai, Clymers or Haynes... although the latter 2 are reverse engineered, AFAIC...

Please also add your bike info in the signature line. Helps us to help you and not ask stupid question when we need to know what bike is being worked on... by you.

We luv eye candy... PICs ASAP please.

Cheers...

Will do, pics will come up tomorrow.

I can remove the accelerator pump right? I have an extra set of carbs from a 80 and was thinking about removing that set up.

You don't want to disturb the seal or damage the rubber by taking it apart. Had a friend staying with me. He would take apart old dirt bike motors just to see how they worked. Never once put one back together. I sent him packing.

Ummmmmm Steve, if they need to be cleaned... it will have to happen. The rubber in the accel pump gets eaten by todays ethanol. I had to replace mine, Z1e has a replacement kit...

Ok so carbs were torn down and cleaned. The accelerator pump was totally shot, that's why I asked if I could just remove it. I will order a new one with the right side air box boot from z1.

I'm thinking the rings are suspect, and the head gasket.

Here's why, the thing won't start unless it's got the air bleed screws all the way open. Then it revs off the charts. So when I had the carbs off I covered the intake port with my hands and held the starter. It didn't have hardly any suction on cyl 1,2,4 and 3 wad meh at best.

Then I noticed oil seeping out of the top of the head neer the base of the plug. I grabbed my ratchet to tighten it down and it stripped out like butter. I didn't apply much pressure at all.

I have a parts bike that's mostly complete. I can rob the head from it.

I was going to get a compression tester but now that the head is stripped, there's no need.

I'm thinking about just going straight to the turbo build. If I need to bust into the motor then I'd rather just start the turbo build now.
