Hello All,

I'm working on my '78 1000A and recently bought a set of "restored" 29mm smoothbores. I installed them and checked the synch and they were out of spec. I began to synchronize them and while I was working on carb #4, I heard a snap from carb #1. The link lever assembly is broken (#80 on the diagram below). I can't find that part anywhere. Does anybody know where I can get that part? It's Mikuni Part number Vm29/17, link lever assembly.

Thanks
Mike

I wonder what the chances are of one off a set of 26s 0r 28s being the same? If not maybe try sudco.(spell check) ;)

Still recovering, some days are better than others.

Good news! The guy I bought them from on eBay is going to send the part I need....no charge!

I also heard back from Jim at Redline Cycle and he has a used one for sale. I might get it anyway to have a spare.

If anybody else needs VM29 parts, here are a couple of sites to check. Redline has a lot of parts not listed, so contact them with your needs.

Thanks!

Unfortunately, all of those parts where N/A is listed in place of the part numbers are no longer available , even from Sudco.

Guess if I had of read through all the posts I may have seen the previous posts. For some reason I only saw the original post with no replies on my phone. Wow. Well, I am glad it worked out for you. Don't discount the new Keihin 29-31 sizes maybe even 32, 33mm? They make a really good carb and for the money the old smoothbores are fetching it seems the CR Specials are a really good alternative with the modern design it even looks like it flows much better. Just my observation though. I have to say that a friend swapped from the stock 28's on his Z1 to the 29's and the difference was totally night and day with the sound and the performance. Just sounded like it was spraying the fuel much more efficiently.
As soon as I get my bike rolling I can confirm firsthand just how much better they are. They take up the slack where the new mics leave off. I think, unless I'm mistaken, the smallest flatsides they make now are the 34's. Not sure but when I looked to purchase a set that is all that I could find new.

79 MK 11, JFYI, you can always just call Sudco & talk to someone there, when they had N/A parts listed that I needed, the person I talked to said he'd call me back, & he did about an hour later to tell me he found the parts I needed from an old set of carbs they had laying around in back, & I was good ta go B) B)

Thanks for the info guys.

I have a set of CR35's waiting to go on my MKII (1261cc, o/s valves, ported head etc...). Can't wait to try them. I have the Mikuni 33 smoothbores on there now.

You are right about the Mikuni flatslides.....sizes start at 34mm.....too much for my stock 1000, I'm sure. I don't see many sets of the Keihins for sale but a set of 29's or 31's would probably be really nice.

Yeah, I didn't want to go that big and so the 31CR's were what I went with. I haven't ridden the bike yet but the engine is together waiting for a few more things to get it all together. When I fired it up and ran it you could tell buy the sound and response of the idle that these carbs definitely are going to have really nice feel and lots more umph than the 29's I took off.
