1983 KZ200 carb identification

Recently bought a lovely KZ200. Not running, not in great shape but it was cheap (150 euro = +-200 USD)

I have downloaded a parts catalogue of the KZ200 A1 but it seems the first or so models have a different type of carb. Among other things I'm looking for the float bowl gasket. The gasket in my carb is made of rubber and the shape looks like that of a KZ250D.

I guess my question is, when did kawasaki put an other carb on the KZ200 and/or is it also called the Keihin PW 26?
The VIN number is KZ200A-046256 so I guess that makes it a A4 model?

Here's some pictures

Sadly I forgot to make detailed pictures of the carb in question.

Also: If anyone knows where to find the correct parts catalogue of my bike that would be amazing.

First things first. How did you identify the model year of your bike? Is there a date on the steering neck? I ask because I suspect your bike is not a 1983 model. The 1983 KZ200 had a hydraulic actuated front brake caliper rather than one operated by a cable, and the caliper was mounted behind the front fork, not in front of it. Also, the lettering of the word "KAWASAKI" on your tank and engine covers is all upper case. That also indicates it is most likely an earlier model. The 1983 KZ200 is the A6 model. Ed

Well it says June 2nd 1983 on the documents. Here's another code from the papers: 00KAWM-10556256

I guess M is a manufacture year but I have no idea what year that might be.

Thanks for your reply! :)

Looks like the same float bowl O ring on my 750 carbs. These were used on a wide range of bikes including the KZ250. The Kawasaki part # 16019-024 is still active and you should be able to order from your local Kawasaki dealer. I wonder if a previous owner put a carb from a 250 on the bike ?

Check out
www.kzrider.com/forum/13-bike-related/37...info-on-kawasaki-com
on how to look up parts diagrams. I had a quick look but did not see the 82 200 listed. However if you play around with it you might find something useful. In looking up parts for my 1980 bike I found that I have to search for 1982 and work backwards
Good luck

That were my first thoughts also, that someone had put a 250 carb on it. Though i bought 3 dutch magazines from the late 70s and early 80s with the kz200 in it. In the '76 and '77 magazine i clearly see the original PW26 with the lever-type choke and bracket under the float bowl. The 1983 magazine shows the exact same carb as is fitted on my bike so I guess it's genuine as well.

Thanks for the link. I'm gonna give it a try now.

I think you are correct. The Kawasaki.com diagrams show a CV carb on all the KZ250 models. Ed

I see what you mean. Your picture of the float bowl looks exactly like mine which is the same as in the diagram 650ed posted (KZ250 CSR) and yet if I enlarge the picture of your bike the carb does look like a totally different animal
Heres a pic of my float bowl.
I hope I am not causing greater confusion.

I am assuming the vin # you provided is the frame #. If that is the case it would appear to fall within the 1982 model year and be called an A5. Now having said all of that, I do agree the tank emblem should not be all upper case on an 82 at least not as I understand it.

In 82 it was offered in red and /or silver, had a chrome front fender and used a mechanical front disk break.

Kawasaki parts is down, or something, at the moment.
That does appear to be an in-between carb. The earlier ones used a wire rod to hold the float bowl on, and the later ones were CV.

But the styling definitely looks older. Maybe Kawasaki was using up some older inventory body parts etc.

So its a real mystery huh?

Unfortunatley the bike (and carb) isn't stored close to my home and I stupidly forgot to take decent pictures of the carb in question. Next time I will take the carb home so we can all have a good look at it.

Who knows, maybe some previous owner did exchange carbs for this one..

The guy that I bought the bike from was a grumpy old fella who didn't really appreciate my e-mails and phonecalls floodded with questions. :silly: So I wont get much information from him.

Thank you all for helping. Hopefully I can post some pictures soon.

Perhaps you have some kind of hybrid carb :) :)

See the pictures in this post from a new member in Greece. He has a totally different and newer looking carb on his A1 200. He might be able to help you out. You could try the messaging function
