Cone type air filters seriously jack up the air/fuel mixture. You can expect to extensively rejet the carbs before the bike will run right. This is not a simple matter of adjusting the pilot screws. You can save yourself significant time and energy by purchasing a Dynojet kit straight away...

BTW, those Emgo pods have a very poor reputation. Uni's are better, and K&N's are better still. APE sells some K&N knockoffs which are reputed to be nice quality, but very reasonably priced. Understand though that the reason K&N's flow more air is because they don't scrub the air as good as the stock filter. More dirt will get though to your engine, but most people don't keep their bikes long enough for that to manifest itself as a problem.

karoliens - when I had K & N pods on my 1980 750 E1 with 4 -> 1 exhaust and Keihin CV34 carbs I upped the secondary main jet size to 140 and the primary main jet size to 70 (stock 125 and 60 or 62), 135 and 64 sizes were also ok.
I had the pilot air mix screws out 2.5 or 3 turns.
As Nessism says putting pods on the bike requires more than just adjusting the screws to get proper running. I have also heard good things about the Dynojet kits
Good luck

OK, so I guess I will run stock air box for now. And you were right rubbers on filters block these circled intakes on carbs. By the way the bike is '83 KZ750E.

Yes!
And also applies to K&N airbox flters.
The stock pleated filter delivers the cleanest air.
Good Fortune!

Re: Kawasaki KZ750E with cone filters
01 Mar 2014 15:48So, took the "Made in China" pods and made some adjustments.
You can cut the rubber on the pods to make a room for the air openings indicated.
Results- TBC
