carbs dont you just love them
02 Nov 2013 06:11
Ah the joy of old carbs.
I love the joy of buying z1000 carbs off ebay to find they are GS750 carbs.
I love the smell of unleaded in the morning.... as it slowly runs from my freshly rebuilt carbs.
I love the taking them off adjusting the float height , putting them on and repeating
I love the firing on 3 cylinders, no wait 4 cylinders no wait..
I love the look of ethanol softened fuel filters.
makes me sad that I have a fuel injected car.

Actually just did a spare set for my bike, Just waiting on the kits so I can button them up. Two new fuel tees, four new plastic choke collars, new sensor diaphragm and carb pump diaphragm, and new kits from Z1. These came off a running KZ1000(26 pumpers) and were in really great clean shape. Gonna watch for some 28 pumpers at a good price and buy those maybe. I enjoyed messing with these, disassembled and cleaned all parts.

I have at LEAST 2 sets for each of my 3 bikes.

Take it from me cuz I found
If you leave it then somebody else is bound,
To find that treasure, that moment of pleasure,
When yours, it could have been.

02 Nov 2013 12:09Eventually, you will trim some screwdrivers to length so you can drop the bowls and get the floats off without removing the carbs.oldzed wrote: I love the taking them off adjusting the float height , putting them on and repeating

Old habits die hard - I have an extra rack of throttle bodies and fuel injectors for my 1100 stashed away - just like carburetors - who knows, in 15 years they may be scarce -
My wife asked me if I still loved her - I said "Honey, I love you more than new carburetor boots ! "

I just love shooting jets across the room at break neck speed with the air compressor never to be seen again..
Love the splatter marks that bleech themselves in to my cool t-shirt that I should have taken off from scrubbing the carb body's with a brush after a carb dip..
And really love when the dog chases the cat up on my work bench scattering my tiney tiny springs and washers and float pins all over the basement floor. yep love em :woohoo:

And no one mentioned carb cleaner spray into the eyes.....
Spray into this little opening, back spray goes right to the eyes.... :pinch: then hit with compressed air after soaking....
Where does the spray go.... Right into the freakin eye, again..... :pinch:
Seriously, it's like that crap has a laser guidance system for your eyes.... burns like hell....
Same time, once they're all dialed in and sync'd, nothing better than a smooth bore set on a ported head with performance cams on a Kerker combo.... New meaning in "Brings Tears to your Eyes"... Literally in the prep of them damn carbs.....

04 Nov 2013 07:13If you like old bikes... it's just initiation into the club. An initiation that must be repeated for every new (old) bike acquired, and sometimes even NOT when acquiring a new (old) bike.oldzed wrote: Ah the joy of old carbs.
Every time I tear into mine, I vow to pay someone to do it next time. But I never do.... I must love old carbs, too.

+1 ! Dropping the bowls is not very difficult with the right tool. Here's what I use. Ed
