For the first set up, give it More slack. Turn the Adjuster on the carb top in a about 3 more turns, to insure good slack. Then retry the Idle Speed screw adjustment, see if the slide will lower anymore.beamer wrote: I adjusted the cable to where it just starts to lift the slide and then I backed it off just a hair.

that still doesn't explain why it revs so high and stays there.
do you have any other ideas for that situation?

So was this a replacement carb, and not something for the application? More like a universal carb, for a dirt bike?

compression is good...it starts and runs great at idle.
accept for the high idle and high rev off idle.

Is this used as received, or re-jetted for your Bike application? Are you following advice from another person who has this same set up/ carb on a 400 or 440?beamer wrote: it is a new carb not for this application but a lot of guys use it for the same thing

I would think the two 400 and 440 would run on the same jets, maybe not optimal but run fine.
