Yes, and updraft carbs are built totally different to work properly. These carbs on the Vmax look just like CV carbs mounted horizontally. Float bowls are not angled however the inside I'm sure is totally different.

Are you thinking of these?
If so, these are a different Down Draft configuration. You can see the float bowls are nearly at the same level as the venturi, quite different. Haven't worked on any but the basics still apply.
