UPDATE:

You'd be supprised how well it works when you re-assemble the carb correctly and don't install the float UPSIDE-FRIGGIN-DOWN!!! *sigh*

Anywho, she's running!!!! However, she's "popping" smoke out the carb once every 5 seconds or so. Could this be due to the break(completely disconnected under the rear brake lever) in the exhaust? I am also running it without the air-box, just using the boot for it as a makeshift 'velocity stack' intake.

airbox and filter will for sure smooth it out...exhaust should not make too much of a difference ,nothing a set of snips and an old can and some hose clamps wont fix...

note to self:

float goes this way next time

Would assure valve clearances are within specs.

An intake valve with insufficient clearance may allow part of the combustion to escape through the intake and carbs.

Good Fortune! :)

That was my thought too, but it's intermitancy (sp?) would tell me it's more to do with timing than it does with valve clearance? I think I will get an exhaust repair clamp and see what that does for me so far. I'm a bit new to dis-assembling the top-end of these motors. heh

Your engine will run like crap with no air filter.

I just ordered a K&N pod for it this past weekend. I was TOLD it was jetted, so with that smooth out my Idle a bit vs. running with nothing?

I believe you have a diaphragm type carb. If that is true you may find tuning it for a pod filter to be a challenge unless someone else has the exact same setup and has found the magic bullet. Ed

Also, previous owners have been know to exaggerate. ;)

Noted. Should that be the case, I will revert back to the airbox. I just find it a PITA to install/remove lol

Just an update.....

I have since re-installed the stock airbox and repaired the break in the exhaust at the couply by the rear brake she's running much much better. =o)

For a while there she was wanting to cut off on me under mid to hard de-celeration, but once it's warmed up, it tends to stay running.

Happy-happy. Especially for what I paid for this bike =oD

A little help please. I have a 1980 kz250 and recently cleaned out the carb and installed a pod filter on it. I put a bigger jet in that was sent to me specifically for the bike. When I put it back on the bike started up great but when I increase the throttle it bogs down and doesn't want to stay on. I'd appreciate any help for when I take it back off.

Thanks.
