Since the engine gets so hot, wouldn't the ambient temperature be irrelevant in regards to the carb holders?mtbspeedfreak wrote: I ride in 110 degree weather and don't want the boots warping or shrinking, so I put the silicone on as added insurance.

+1 good posting. New manifolds go on dry. USe no sealer on them. DO NOT use silicon on anything pertaining to the fuel system. Sorry MTB, it's just not a good idea.
The reason your manifolds have the sealer on them is because they are old, and cracked, and warped. They were leaking. It appears to be Three Bond on them, which is not RTV silicon, and will work in this application. Although it is a temporary fix.
New manifolds are soft and pliable. They seal without the aid of sealers.

The Right Stuff is as chemically resistant as a silicone based compound can get. If it's applied, however, wait a full 24 hours to make sure that everything is cured.
