Carb Issue???? was created by badrhino
Ok so I have:

Cleaned my carbs.
Adjusted Valves
New Spark Plug Wires
Adjusted fuel height/floats
Checked for vacuum leaks

I am having a weird issue. I am still not getting proper firing on cylinder (4). I have tried everything. Switched wires, switched coils, etc. #4 header still not getting as warm as the others.

So I was messing around and pulled the plug off of the #4 carb holder boot and noticed that the bike started running better/ idling faster, and #4 started getting hot like the others.

What does this mean?

With normal configuration, does #4 cylinder combust when spraying starter fluid into #4 carb intake?

Any evidence of gasoline on the #4 spark plug when removed after running in non-combusting #4 cylinder?

Spraying carb fluid in back does not help with combustion. I think it is getting plenty of fuel.

Spark plug does appear to be wet and has alot of carbon build up. I am getting a nice blue spark. I have been switching spark plugs and they are new.

For some reason I don't think I'm getting enough air, hence why the bike seemed to run better when I unplugged the carb boot and introduced a vacuum leak.

Have you synced the carbs? Maybe #4 is way out of whack?

Not yet. All of the slides look to be in the same position. I know there is probably more to synching than that, but you'd think it would be close enough to fire the cylinder decent.

Perhaps the air jet is clogged.

I have stuck a carb jet cleaning tool (wire set) through the air jet and it seems to be clear. Should I take it out completely and check?

Would force carb cleaner spray through the air jet until it freely exits into the carb bore.

If you pulled the rubber cap off the carb intake boot and the rpms went up and the pipe got hot. than #4 must be running very rich. By taking the rubber cap off you are leaning out the cylinder. Maybe you have the float set to rich. Or loose main jet, or mixture out too far, etc...

If all else fails, JUMP!

That's what I'm thinking is it isn't getting enough air in the mixture. I have adjusted the float height a couple of times so it should be good. Looks like I am going to have to pull the carbs for the (oh, who's counting)

Check to be sure that the Pilot Jets are not only the same # and the same type, but that they are the same dia in the small hole. So as not damaged by Carb Cleaning Wires, or been drilled out. Just because the # reads whatever, like 40, doesn't always mean its correct. The CV carb is Supposed to use the different style of Pilot, compared to the VM series.
