KZ750 Starts hard after sitting a few days? was created by AaronOregon
I have put up several posts on here about small things and you guys have been great. I have been through the carbs and the bike runs great, but when it sits for a couple days it's hard starting. It has to crank for 10-15 seconds before it fires off. Once started and warmed it fires immediately and it starts pretty quick if it was rode the day before. It's just when it sits for a couple/few days. Float level is bang on. Is there anything I am missing or is it just weak vacuum? Thanks again guys!

Are you turning your Pet Cock to "Prime" for a bit Before starting?

No. Why would it need to "prime" if the bowls are full?

"Prime" before starting after it sets for a few days, bowls will evap some fuel. you park it with a hot engine, some fuel will be lost. Remember to turn back to "ON" after Priming. You don't want to let it set for several days with it in "Prime" as it will likely flood the engine, contaminating your oil.

Remember on these carb bikes, there is no fuel pump to refill the bowls like a car would.

I did what you said to do today. Bike has sat for about 3-4 days. I turned it to prime for about 3 minutes while I swept out the garage. Might have made a little difference, but not much. Cranked for about 10 seconds before firing. Any other ideas?

Normal. If it starts at all you are doing good.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

Choke circuits working OK?

Sometimes a hard starter may be fouling a plug and it takes a bit of cranking to "wash" it clear to fire.

I wasn't going to say that.....

They all get harder to start after sitting a few days. I just rebuilt my engine a few years back so it is pretty easy to start.... easy defined as fires after maybe 2 or 3 spins.

+1 had the same thing for a while, there is nothing harder to start than a flooded engine.
