Was it running poorly before you poured in 4 quarts of oil?

no, it just started doing in about a week ago, but i dont ride it much. i wasnt sure if the new gas may have did something. i did just replace the fuel line because it started leaking really bad at the carbs. maybe it could have been some old rubber from the old line that got into the carbs. im sure it was the original fuel line and it was very old.

i just ordered a valve cover gasket a little while ago, i guess ill yank off the cover and check the valves once the gasket comes in. its just hard to do any major work on the bike where i live, i live in an apt complex and have to place thats covered to work on it. i can do minor stuff when i need to.

If the bike was running well and then you did some work on it most likely the problem is related to the work you did. Valve clearances don't suddenly change (unless something VERY unusual happens). I would start by removing the excess oil. Bring the oil level down between the 2 lines on the site glass when the bike is on the centerstand. You should be able to syphon it out using a piece of tubing through the filler hole. Then (I know you'll hate this suggestion) replace the plugs with new NGKB8ES spark plugs. The excess oil you put in the engine could be causing the problem. I would do the above then take the bike for a healthy ride and see if the problem is gone. It won't hurt to check your valves, but I don't believe the problem you describe is related to valve adjustement since the problem only started after you changed the oil. The fuel line change may be related, but that seems like a long shot. Try fixing the oil overfill first. I have my fingers crossed for you. Ed

ill try that, i guess it wont hurt. i just put 2 sets of plugs in this weekend lol, but if it fixes itself 11 bucks will be a worth spending. ill stop by harbor freight and see if they have something cheap to suck the extra oil out. if not i can loosen up the oil plug and let some out that way. my bike doesnt have the center stand anymore due to the kerker header thats on the bike. i will just hold it up. thanks for the help. the bike has never had any problems before and always ran strong. ive been wanting to check the valves before this happened, im just not looking forward to removing and installing new shims.

well i ended up taking about 1/2qt of oil out of engine thru the oil plug. it was the fastest and easiest way to do it.
