I have a 1976 KZ 900 with Mikuni 29 mm carbs on it. I just got a Motion Pro 08-0411 SyncPRO Card Tuner. The instructions say to calibrate before every use. It then says to attach a piece of vacuum hose to the non-adjustable master carb or throttle body. Which carb on the Mikuni is the master carb ? Any help would be appreciated. Also, I order a kick stand from Z1 Enterprises for the same bike but it is too long. Someone took the 18 inch wheel off and put on a 16 inch wheel. Do anyone know if the LTD kick stand would work ? It is supposed to be shorter. Thanks.

I don't know about the Kickstand lengths.
But the Master Carb that would be the one with the throttle cable hooked to it. The rest will adjust to that one. Its #3 on my J bike, and was also #3 on the 550 I had.

Would ignore the "master carb" reference when dealing with Mikuni 29 smooth-bores.

Bench sync and vacuum sync the smooth-bores in same manner as Mikuni manual slide non-smooth-bore carbs.

Kawasaki did not fit the KZ900-B1 LTD with a center-stand.

Overall diameter of the fatter rear tire on 16" Morris Mag is about the same as overall diameter of the thinner rear tire on the standard model. In other words, the measured distance from rear axle center line to the pavement is the same on both models.

The LTD may be easily lifted onto a center stand (borrowed from a standard model) by first rolling the rear wheel onto a piece of wood. Such as I have used for years.

Good Fortune! :)

Patton, I was talking about the kick stand/side stand. Not the center stand. I ordered the KZ900 kick stand installed it, but it is too long, the bike stands almost straight up. I check my manual and the bike came with a 18 inch wheel and someone has installed a 16 inch wheel, so I am guessing that is why the kick stand is too long.

As for the car syncing, do you have instructions or kow where I can get instructions on syncing the non-smooth-bore carbs ? Thanks.

World-to-Patton: KICK stand.

Whether an LTD kick stand would be the correct length mostly depends on chassis height based on such matters as wheel sizes, tire sizes and diameters, shock size and sag, forks and position in clamps, fork springs and sag.

These are links to carb bench sync articles in the FILEBASE.

During bench sych it's important to have the idle adjustment screw set in a position allowing sufficient thread remaining to further reduce idle speed during the later vacuum running sync.

Most any FSM contains detailed instructions for both bench sync and vacuum sync on manual slide carbs.

With smoothbores, the Mikuni 26mm or 28mm manual slide carbs with side located pilot circuit air adjustment screws seem to be the closest comparison.

If needed, here's the link to a free Z1 manual download, with sync info on pages 12 and 13.

I bench synced my carbs using the information provided by Patton. After warming up the bike, I tried to synchronize them using the Motion Pro 08-0411 SyncPRO Card Tuner, but I can not get a reading from the fourth carb. I switched the fourth and third hoses and still nothing from the fourth carb. I took the carbs apart again and cleaned them again. Put them back on and still the same thing. All of the pipes are hot, so it appears to be working. Anyone have any ideas ?

I meant to put this in the previous entry, but forgot. While I had the carbs apart, I checked the maint jet and it is 125. The pilot jet is 25. Does this seem right for a KZ 900 with K&N pods and Vanes and Hines pipe with no baffle ?

I think 120 for main and 17.5 or 20 for pilot is correct.

Is the nipple on the boot clogged? Have you made sure the carbs are seated correctly on them? You may want to take the boot off the bike, and use a piece of wire, like a paper clip or something, to make sure air can get through...
Just a thought.

In answer to your question about the kickstand, yes the LTD kickstand is shorter and will fit directly on your frame with no modifications. I just swapped the front end and the wheels off a 79 LTD onto a 78 1000 A-2 a couple of weeks ago and when I did the stock kickstand was too long so I also swapped the kickstand which made everything perfect.

You can go to this thread to see the before and after pics. The first pics on the thread is the bike in it's original state and the last pics posted on the thread are the pics after the swap.

Patton's tip about using the board to get the bike on the centerstand is spot on and works great.

I got time to check on this again and I checked the nipple and it was not obstructed at all. I cleaned the carb again and still unable to get anything from the #4 carb. I switched hoses around again and still nothing from #4. Does anyone have any other ideas ? Thanks.
