Actually, it is said that you can grind a little bit off the tip of a phillips so that it seats fully down into the JIS screw. This will help quite a bit if you are in a pinch. I would just grind the tip a small amount at a time until you can see that the screwdriver is fully seated in the screw. I doubt that you will be able to find a JIS at your local home improvement store. Reportedly, electronics stores sell JIS drivers in smaller sizes, as a lot of electronics take small JIS screws.
