The '78 Z1R had VM28SS Mikunis. This carb had a single feed to the center and came stock with a 107.5 main,O-1 needle jet and 15 pilot jet. The needle should be a 5CN15 on the third (center) groove but shimming the clip with a small thin washer will give you a little better throttle response without having to jump a whole groove. I have these carbs on my '78 LTD with a stock exhaust and a K+N std. type air filter and they work great and give great fuel economy.

The 28mm with pumps came on 1979-80 KZ1000MKII and ST, and the 1980 Z1R which all had the MKII engine. 1978 was before pumps were introduced so no 1978 would have them. 1979 KZ1000LTD Was 26mm pump carbs with old KZ1000 spec engine. 1980 LTD, I'm not sure but think it got the 28mm carbs and MKII engine. Of course the carbs were never the same between models, the 28mm carbs used on the MKII, ST and Z1R all were different in subtle ways. Of course th Z1R-TC used a Zenith carb. The carb on the TC was about as good as their TVs. The quality goes in before the name goes on. Sure it does:lol:
