is $800 a good deal for a set of CR carbs? was created by cobura
I just saw another post where someone posted a pic from an ebay auction for a set of CR carbs that sold for over a grand. From my friend's shop, I can order a set of new CR carbs to fit KZ650 or ZII (Z750) for about $800. Is this a good deal?

I personally would never spend 800 for a set of carbs to put on my 650, as I only paid $650 for the bike 5 years ago in almost running shape. I don't think I've spent more than $650 on any bike in the last 20 years, come to think of it.
Keep looking.

thanks for the input, but i think the original price of your bike is irrelevant though. If you want more power, one of the best things you can get is a racing carburetor. It all depends what you want from your bike. If you just want something to take you from one place to another, than i agree with you. But if you want performance, you get what you pay for.

Yes, it all depends on what you need to do, if you're racing the 650 versus just riding. In that case I don't know if $800 is a good price for that set of carbs.
What are your plans?

The cost of building the 650 motor that will require the 800 dollar carbs will make the 800 dollars irrelivent

im not too sure what everyone is talking about. What do i plan to do with my bike? I plan to ride it, and i'd like to have some extra power.

Last i checked, you dont need some special engine in order to run race carbs. Not sure what you mean by this?
All i want to know is how much to CR specials cost in the U.S.? Is $800 a good deal? In my opinion, every nice KZ or Z! has a nice set of CR's or Keihins race carbs. The original carbs that come on our bikes are terrible.

Actually you do need a "special" engine to make use of those CR carbs. Putting on a set of "racing" carbs on a stock motor will not gain anything except headaches. Trying to dial in a set of race carbs without cams, bigger pistons, headers etc. will drive you nuts.
Don't ask me how I know this.
You will not feel any increase in power with those carbs unless you build up the engine to get the most out of them.

if its just a basically stock rider try a set of 26s from a 900-1000,that will wake it up

sorry but i have to disagree with what everyone has said here. I do part time work at my friends business here in japan, and one of the first custom parts we add to a newly built engine is a high-performance carb. The cams are always factory originals, the pistons are usually original size, unless if the cylinders show wear, we sometimes bore them slightly only to restore performance back to original settings. Some bikes do have custom parts, but almost all have racing carbs. Dialing in the setting is not that difficult, im not sure what kind of experiences all of you have had in your pasts. My friends store in a franchise of the most popular and successful Z! bike shop in japan, he's not ripping people off, and his bikes are all top notch at around $35,000 each. Have any of you actually purchased racing carbs before? I already have installed keihin racing carbs on my CBR. The only other custom part on that bike is an exhaust. After installing the new carb, i saw a very noticeable increase in power, VERY noticeable. I'd like to know where you all got your information.
Anyways, no one has yet to answer my very simple question, instead i keep getting lectures. Does anyone know how much a set of CR specials run for in the U.S.? Is $800 a good deal? Maybe no one here has ever bought such parts before.

I HAVE RS34 FLATSLIDES ON MY 1000. MY MOTOR IS FAR FROM STOCK WITH LOTS OF VALVE AND HEAD WORK. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY BECAUSE MOST OF YOUR POWER IS IN THE HEAD. 29 SMOOTHBORES WOULD HAVE BEEN FINE WITH ME BUT WENT WITH THE 34S

To answer your original question Keihin CRS29mm Carburetors are about $750.00 to $850.00 I believe... NO ONE Advertises/Lists the prices of these Carbs anywhere... It's one of those "Trade Secret" silly things that goes on. It's a "Call for Pricing" kind of ridiculous thing, because someone "Might" give you a $50.00 discount off, over Blah, Blah, Blah's Race Shop/Parts House...
